The Hale MRI Machine
Lake Lanier Propeller utilizes the Hale M.R.I. system to provide complete boat propeller analysis. Analysis consists of several thousand measurements in under 5 minutes.
Measurements include:
- Isolated, Local and Mean Pitch. Axial Position
- Angular Deviation
- Chord (blade area) Rake
- Blade Contour
- Design Point Analysis all done in 3-dimensions.
An M.R.I. tuned boat propeller delivers better performance, fuel efficiency and speed. Using the Hale M.R.I. we can analyze boat propellers up to 36 inches in diameter. Boaters can rely on the fact that their boat propellers have been fine tuned without any compromises. Marty Ronis, Vice-President of Marketing and Sales for Michigan Wheel Corporation, says:
"The Hale M.R.I. unit, we feel, eclipses everything that is on the market today. It has logical shop tested hardware components, and is supported by excellent interpretive software.”
Experienced propeller shops prefer the Hale MRI. With the MRI reporting the propeller shop can get absolute recognition of propeller condition. With that data, the customer may be given a choice of different levels of reconditioning.
- Restore to original
- Restore and adjust for operating condition
- Restore to optimize performance

The Dynamic Balancer
|
|
|
One of the newest additions to Lake Lanier Propeller is our Dynamic Balancer. Following is an explanation of the difference between dynamic and static balancing.
Static Balancing is the mechanical balance of a boat propeller in the plane of rotation. This can be measured by inserting a special arbor into the bore and placing this assembly onto a stand wherein the rotation of the propeller is in the vertical plane and the arbor rests upon bearings. Because the boat propeller is allowed to freely rotate, the heavier blade(s) will rotate to the downward most position. Weight is Either added or removed until the boat propeller will remain static in any rotational position. A boat propeller may be in perfect Static Balance and still not be in a balanced state when rotating at high speeds.
Dynamic Balancing is the balancing of a boat propeller while it is rotating. Dynamic unbalance is a "couple" or a "twisting" force in two separate planes. Because these forces are in separate places, they cause a rocking motion fore and aft -or-side to side. A perfectly good boat propeller (geometrically) that is unbalanced will cause mechanical vibrations and a decrease in bearing life and efficiency due to unnecessary forces. The only scientific manner in which to accurately measure and therefore correct dynamic unbalance is through the use of a true multi-place dynamic balance analyzer.
A propeller may be in perfect static balance and still not be in a balanced state when rotating at high speeds. By Dynamic Balancing your propeller is balanced by rotating at high speed while therefore simulating what will actually be happening on your boat.

MRI Advanced Technology:
- Increases performance
- Increases speed
- Reduces fuel consumption
- Eliminates propeller induced vibration
- Enables synchronization of multiple engines
- Matches sets to ISO tolerances
- Ensures results are repeatable
Additionally, the Hale MRI computer system keeps a record of all repairs. This allows technicians to reproduce a propeller of the same specification first time, every time.
